On private Existing Residential projects VIRGINIA Code Annotated § 43-5 mandates that a notarized VIRGINIA Memorandum For Mechanic’s Lien Claim By General Contractor must be recorded by General Contractors no later than ninety (90) consecutive calendar days of last providing labor, services, equipment or materials at a project. Record at the Circuit Court Clerk’s Office in the county where the project is located. Cost to record a lien with the 31st Judicial Circuit Court serving Prince William county is $26.

Claimants are required to file suit to foreclose on a VIRGINIA Mechanic’s Lien within six (6) months after a lien is recorded or sixty (60) days from the date the entire improvement was completed.
